President Joe Biden flew out of Wilmington-New Castle Airport on Sunday morning for a trip to Atlanta. He will speak at Ebeneezer Baptist Church on the eve of Martin Luther King Day and will return to Delaware later on Sunday.

His visits come after the discovery of classified documents in the locked garage of his home near Greenville.

The president arrived at Wilmington-New Castle Airport Friday afternoon.

His Delaware visit came after lawyers found documents at an office he occupied in the Washington, DC, area as well as his northern Delaware home. No documents were found at his home near Rehoboth Beach.

Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed a former U.S. District Attorney for Maryland to serve as a special prosecutor in connection with the discovery of the papers as critics questioned why the administration did not disclose the issue earlier.

Biden and First Lady Jill Biden typically hold no public events in Delaware but is seen from time to time at businesses and golf courses in the Greenville area.

The frequent trips provide a modest boost for the Wilmington -area economy, with aides, security and the media taking hotel rooms.

Biden’s Rehoboth home was in the news, with cable outlet Fox News reporting on a wall being built around the residence for security reasons. The story was not news in Sussex County since the wall had to go through a normal approval process. Fox News compared the construction of the Wall to what it claimed was the president’s opposition to a border wall with Mexico.
