President Joe Biden is returning to the White House late Monday morning after arriving at the New Castle Airport Saturday night following a western trip.

Air Force One flew to Delaware Saturday night from Albuquerque, NM.

No public events were scheduled on Sunday.

The trip included a stop in Los Angeles, where he attended a summit of leaders in the Americas. The New Mexico trip featured a briefing on wildfires in the dry state. The West is seeing a near-record heatwave.

Biden is facing sagging approval ratings driven by inflation with the national gas price hitting the $5 mark on Saturday.

The debate over gun control has also intensified after recent workplace, shopping, and school shootings, one of the most recent not being far from the presidential retreat at Camp David in the Maryland mountains.

Reports indicate that a coalition of Republican and Democratic senators reached an agreement on gun legislation that would include mental health services and other measures that stop short of a ban on semiautomatic “assault weapons.”

The ban went into effect in the 1990s and expired 10-years later. Rapid-fire rifles account for only a small percentage of total shootings but are typically used in mass shootings at schools and other public spaces.

The lack of rifle-related shootings has been a cornerstone of opponents of a measure that would ban future sales of such weapons in Delaware.

Flight restrictions in the area remained into Monday.

Biden has been spending most weekends in Delaware and made a rare trip to Rehoboth last weekend. It featured a press conference at the beach town’s convention center.
