Grant named Chesapeake’s chief diversity officer

Sharon Grant

Chesapeake Utilities Corporation, Dover, named Sharon Grant as assistant vice president and diversity officer.

Grant will oversee Chesapeake Utilities’ equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) strategy and initiatives, including its EDI Council and employee resource groups, while also collaborating across the organization with the teams responsible for the enterprise-wide environmental, social and governance plan. In addition, Grant will lead efforts to improve the employee experience at Chesapeake Utilities, with a focus on employee engagement and enhancing company culture to foster an environment that promotes wellness, inclusion and belonging.   

Grant most recently held the role of vice president and chief diversity officer at the Virginia Economic Development Partnership.Grant also has held leadership roles with global responsibility at Cisco Systems Inc. and the City of Atlanta, and she led her own HR consulting firm. 

Chandler joins Marlette as brand strategist

Marlette Holdings, Inc., Wilmington,  a financial technology company that operates the Best Egg financial platform,  announced that Adele Chandler was named  Managing Director, Brand Strategy. She is responsible for driving the company’s brand strategy by harnessing the power of creativity and out-of-category thinking.

Chandler has more than 25 years of personal finance, brand, and innovation marketing experience to the team, having served recently as Head of Brand and Advertising for JPMorgan Chase’s consumer credit card, auto, and home lending businesses. She has led brand, marketing, and product for leading card brands such as Southwest Airlines, Chase Freedom, and Chase Sapphire. Adele began her career at MBNA and has held leadership positions at FICO and Wachovia. 

Cover & Rossiter announces promotions

Cover & Rossiter, a northern Delaware accounting firm announced the following promotions.

Hopkins

Peter Hopkins has been promoted to Principal in the Tax Department. Hopkins joined Cover & Rossiter in 2015.

Maiorano

Previously, he spent 20 years practicing public accounting in New York City.

 He also lived in  Indonesia for four years and can speak Indonesian conversationally. He is certified in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Teaching Business English. 

Samantha Maiorano has been promoted to Supervisor in the Audit Department. Maiorano joined Cover & Rossiter in July 2016. 

Maiorano is a young founder of the Fund for Women, an endowment held at the Delaware Community Foundation that provides grants to support women’s and girls’ programs in Delaware. She is also a mentor for Fresh Start Scholarship. 

Furey

Rebecca Furey has been promoted to Senior Accountant. Furey joined Cover & Rossiter full-time in September 2020.  She held two internships at Cover & Rossiter in the Tax Department in 2019 and 2020.

Community Bank addition and promotion

Niblett

Staci  Niblett, of Salisbury, MD, has joined Community Bank Delaware as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Sussex County Bank.

Staci has 27 years of experience in the banking industry. 

Niblett, will oversee the development, implementation and enhancement of electronic banking products as well as providing oversight for all aspects of operations including the branches.

Benjamin

Christopher Benjamin was named Senior Vice President in the  Lending Group.

Benjamin joined the Bank in 2016. Within this time, Chris has been successful in growing the Bank’s loan portfolio, adding new relationships and managing existing customers. 

Kahn named Faw Casson partner

Faw Casson announced that Keith S. Kahn  has been admitted as a Partner with the Firm.  Keith is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Fraud Examiner.  He has served the clients of Faw Casson for over seven years and has worked in the accounting industry since 2010.

Kahn

Keith’s primary focus areas are audits and attestation services for nonprofits, privately held corporations and employee benefit plans.

Keith also helps lead Faw Casson’s talent management and development program. 

Prior to his career in public accounting, Keith was a tax compliance officer (tax auditor) with the Internal Revenue Service.  

Faw Casson is an accounting and business consulting firm with offices in Dover and Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Ocean City, MD.

Shropshire to head equity institute at DSU

Shropshire

Delaware State University has named an expert in the diversification of colleges and universities to lead its Global Institute on Equity, Inclusion and Civil Rights.

Sonel Shropshire, a 1993 Del State alumnus, has been appointed as the new Associate Vice President of the Global Institute. He holds a law degree from the University of Florida and has more than 25 years of researching, managing, and writing diversification and equity programs.    

Over the next decade, he held assistant dean positions at UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, and Texas Wesleyan University, serving at each in leadership roles for diversity recruitment and retention policies, among other responsibilities.

The Global Institute was founded in early 2021 with a mission to not only raise awareness about issues surrounding equity but also to bring together people and organizations that can transform communities around the world.

Surgeon Marrs joins Beebe medical staff

Marra

Beebe Healthcare added board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon Steven Marra, MD to its medical staff. 

Dr. Marra has specialized in cardiac surgery for more than 20 years. Previously, he was the Cardiothoracic Division Chief at Commonwealth Health’s Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

During his career, he has also served as a medical director and vice-chair, in addition to many years as an attending surgeon. 

Marra earned his medical degree and residency at MetroHealth Saint Luke’s Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, which is an affiliate of Case Western Reserve University.
