Bardea Steak has opened in downtown Wilmington.

TownSquare Delaware writer Pam Geoge reported the steakhouse had a soft opening over the weekend.

The venture is near the partners’ Bardea Food & Drink, a restaurant that has gained regional and national mention, due in part to a visit from Joe and Jill Biden prior to his election as president. Numerous write-ups followed.

The steakhouse was mentioned on the Vogue magazine website as one of the most anticipated restaurant openings in 2022. Bardea Steak will operate in space at what is slated to become a boutique hotel on Market Street.

The chef at Bardea Antonio DiMeo was also in the running for a James Beard award and ended up a semi-finalist.

DiMeo and owner Scott Stein also operate a pizza and taqueria in the DECO food hall at the building housing the Hotel Du Pont.

Bardea Steak saw numerous delays due to Covid-19 and supply chain issues that also elevated costs in a restaurant format where the steak itself can be break-even proportion. Click here for a previous story on the July 2021 announcement on Bardea Steak was coming to downtown.

Buccini/Pollin Group, which through its entities owns and operates the Hotel duPont and numerous apartment projects downtown, has also been involved in the development of space for restaurants like Bardea as a way to draw more people downtown.
