Rosen retires from Benfint, Lyons & Shuman

Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. announced the retirement on Dec. 31  of Jordon Rosen as Director of Estates & Trusts,

He retires after more than 21 years at BLS and over 43 years in public accounting.!

Prior to joining BLS, Jordon served as a partner in other CPA firms, but he pointed to Carolyn Fausnaugh of Carolyn J. Fausnaugh & Associates, P.A. as having the greatest impact on his career.  He credits Fausnaugh  (one of the first female CPAs to have her own firm in Delaware) with bringing him to the state and serving as a  mentor. He ended up owning a CPA firm himself when he ultimately purchased half of her practice.

Jordon began career at BLS on November 6, 2000, when he joined as a Principal with a specialty in tax. He was admitted as a Shareholder and Director on Dec. 1, 2003 and went on to develop and expand an estate, gift, and trust practice. He was inducted into the NAEPC Estate Planning Hall of Fame in 2020.

Chesapeake announces executive promotions

Chesapeake Utilities Corp., Dover,  announced  the promotions of six Company leaders, effective Jan. 1, 2022:

  • Jeff Sylvester, promotion to Chief Operating Officer
  • Kevin Webber, promotion to Chief Development Officer
  • Michael Galtman, promotion to Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer
  • Mike Cassel, promotion to Vice President, Governmental and Regulatory Affairs
  • Stacie Roberts, promotion to Vice President, Corporate Governance
  • Lindsay Orr, promotion to Assistant Vice President and Associate General Counsel

Sylvester will assume responsibilities for all of the company’s business operations. This includes oversight of the nonregulated operations in addition to the current responsibilities for the company’s regulated segments. His expanded role will include propane operations, Eight Flags and Marlin Gas Services operations.

 In 2019, Sylvester was appointed Senior Vice President of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation. He provides oversight of the Company’s regulated operations on Delmarva and in Florida.

Webber will increase his focus on new business development and expansion, including in renewable energy. He will be responsible for business development, energy logistics, sales and the incubation of new business opportunities such as RNG, hydrogen and a new environmental sustainability office. Webber was promoted to Senior Vice President of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation in 2019. He joined the Company in 2010 and, since that time, has served as President of Florida Public Utilities Company (FPU), as well as Vice President of Gas Operations and Business Development for this subsidiary. Webber currently oversees the company’s propane gas operations, combined heat and power operations, mobile compressed natural gas (CNG) utility and pipeline solutions, and business development companywide.

Galtman was appointed Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer of Chesapeake Utilities Corporation in April 2019. He oversees the technical accounting, financial reporting, financial analysis and planning functions for the Company, which include budgeting, forecasting and the financial component of strategic planning. Galtman works directly with the Company’s leadership team on merger and acquisition transactions, strategic initiatives and the associated financial analyses. In his new role, he will oversee all accounting functions of the company and will assume the role of the principal accounting officer. He has over 20 years of broad-based accounting experience with public companies and the Big Four accounting firms.

Cassel will continue to strengthen efforts in gas advocacy with external stakeholders and advance strategic regulatory efforts. Cassel has served as Assistant Vice President of FPU since 2019 and led the Regulatory and Governmental Affairs groups for this subsidiary. Previously, he was the Director of Florida Regulatory and Governmental Affairs. He joined Chesapeake Utilities Corporation in March 2008 as a regulatory analyst for the Company’s Delaware and Maryland Natural Gas Divisions. Cassel has worked to build upon vital regulatory relationships in Florida. He has represented the Company on key regulatory filings and legislation.

Roberts will continue to be responsible for corporate governance at Chesapeake. Roberts has served as Assistant Vice President of Corporate Governance since 2019. Roberts provides guidance to the Company’s leadership team, including the Board of Directors, on corporate governance and compliance matters. 

Orr will continue to help develop and expand the Company’s internal legal efforts. Orr joined Chesapeake Utilities Corporation in 2019 as Associate General Counsel and provides counsel to senior management and business units on the Company’s legal affairs, including compliance with applicable laws and regulations, regulatory matters and major business transactions. Prior to joining Chesapeake  Orr worked in the legal department of Exelon Corporation, and prior to that practiced litigation and employment law at Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP (now Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP) and Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP, both in Wilmington.

Siegfried named Arteisan VP

The Board of Directors of Artesian Wastewater Management, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Artesian Resources Corporation named Stanley Siegfried Vice President of Wastewater Operations. 

Siegfried has over 30 years of professional experience in utility plant construction. 

Siegfried initiated his professional career in construction after earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Delaware. Siegfried went on to own a construction company, which Artesian contracted to construct some of its wastewater facilities. 

In 2018, he became the Manager of Wastewater Maintenance for Artesian Wastewater Management, Inc., and in 2020 he was promoted to Director of Wastewater Operations.

In his new role, Siegfried will manage future expansions and improvements of Artesian’s wastewater systems and the rehabilitation of existing systems. 

Belfint, Lyons names shareholder

Stephanie L. Chapman  was named a Shareholder of Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. (BLS) and Director in the International Services Practice Group, effective January 1.

Stephanie celebrated her 12th anniversary at BLS in May 2021. She started as a Supervisor in the Tax & Small Business Department in 2009. She brought with her a number of years of experience at other public accounting firms in Florida, Pennsylvania, and Delaware, as well as a bachelor of arts in accounting and a master of accountancy, both from the University of West Florida.

Not long after joining the BLS family, Stephanie began to focus on building an international services practice that she, along with other BLS members, represents 10% of the firm’s revenue.

 Chapman has earned  an AICPA International Tax Certificate.

Haughton named Sales Director at Courtyard by Marriott Newark UD

Donielle Haughton as the new Director of Sales at the Courtyard by Marriott Newark – University of Delaware Hotel. Ms. Haughton has over 15 years of experience working in the hospitality industry. Prior to joining us at the Marriott, she held the position of Director of Sales & Operations at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, where she was responsible for managing and overseeing the corporate sales and the daily functions and management of the hotel’s operations. As a result of her contributions, the hotel won the Torchbearer Award 3 consecutive years, upon commencement of Ms. Haughton’s duties in the said role.

In her new role at the Marriott, Ms. Haughton will be responsible for leading, planning, and executing all sales-related initiatives and activities. She will also work closely with the Finance/Revenue team in generating financial projections.

Haughton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a minor in Finance, from Wilmington University.  Haughton won the Delaware Hotel and Lodging Association “manager of the year award” in 2019.


Bayhealth adds physicians

Bayhealth announced two physicians have joined practices.

Jonathan Sarik, MD, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who is the newest doctor to join the team. He is accepting new patients at Bayhealth Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Sussex Campus, located in Milford. This practice is part of Bayhealth Medical Group, a partnership of highly trained physicians, their clinical staff, and an administrative support team that operates practices throughout central and southern Delaware.

Sarik has a medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He then completed a general surgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where he was twice named a nominee for Excellence in Trauma Residency. 

Bayhealth is excited to welcome Gastroenterologist Michal Bartel, MD, PhD, to Bayhealth Gastroenterology, Dover. Dr. Bartel is a highly trained physician specialist who helps patients with problems of the gastrointestinal system. In addition to performing common procedures like colonoscopies and endoscopies, he offers many advanced techniques to diagnose and treat a broad range of digestive system disorders. Bartel joins fellow Gastroenterologists Bhavin Dave, MD, and Muhammad Hanafi, MD, as well as Physician Assistant Stephanie Nguyen, PA-C, in the practice. Dr. Bartel is welcoming new patients.

The practice is part of Bayhealth Medical Group.

Bartel comes to Bayhealth from the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, where he was a gastroenterologist and therapeutic endoscopist. After graduating from University Heidelberg in Germany, he went on to complete an internship in surgery there and also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the immunotherapy group. Afterward, he completed another internship and residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New NH. He then completed a gastroenterology fellowship and advanced endoscopy fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL

ChristianaCare promotions

Carla Aponte Johnson has been appointed as director of Community Health and Social Integration at ChristianaCare.  

She is responsible for the oversight and growth of all social care programs that are integrated within the clinical space. In addition, she leads the work to partner across the organization to provide social care integration within new community-based care models. 

Aponte Johnson joined ChristianaCare in 2011. In that time she has educated pregnant women and adults on diabetes as a community educator; led the Health Ambassador and Health Guide programs while implementing the Affordable Care Act and Health Insurance Marketplace; and worked as a senior program manager to develop the inaugural Community Health Worker team. As a manager, she has overseen the growth of that program with more than 40 full-time equivalents in multiple clinical sites.

Ashlee Rowles, MHA, will assume operational and project leadership within the Women’s and Children’s services at ChristianaCare In her role, Rowles oversees operations for the First State School, Healthy Women, Healthy Babies, and Child Development Watch.

Rowles joined ChristianaCare in 2017 as an administrative fellow from the University of Iowa.B
