The Delaware Division of Public Health reports that 85% of those hospitalized for Covid-19 were not fully or partially vaccinated in a one-week period.

DPH is now offering a weekly breakdown of vaccination status for cases, deaths, and hospitalizations. This first report included the period between  Aug. 2 to Aug. 8.

The report was released over the weekend.

As of Tuesday, 80 people were hospitalized, down three from the previous day. Hospitalizations have declined from highs in the low 100s.

At the same time, the number of people in critical condition totaled 17. The number had slipped below 10 earlier in the summer.

While the percentage of vaccinated people getting Covid-19 has increased, the vaccine continues to be the most important factor in reducing deaths and hospitalizations, DPH reported.

DPH also reported that the percentage of breakthrough cases among the fully vaccinated increased from one-tenth of one percent two two-tenths of one percent.

Thirty of the reported breakthrough cases identified since vaccinations began, involved hospitalizations and 10 individuals passed away, although it does not mean Covid-19 was the cause of death.

“Breakthrough cases continue to be extremely rare given the total number of persons who are fully vaccinated, and the science is clear, the best way to prevent serious illness from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated,” a DPH release stated.

Below are the figures on vaccinations and cases.
