Bayhealth is partnering with the Governor’s office, the state Division of Public Health, and our other healthcare systems to expand Coronavirus community testing to high-risk populations in Sussex County.

No appointment is necessary.

Bayhealth will provide walk-up or drive-up community testing at the DHSS State Services Center in Milford  at 253 NE Front Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on these dates: April 30, May 2, May 4, May 7, May 9, and May 11.

This expanded community testing is geared to the following high-risk populations: those with symptoms consistent with COVID-19, those living or working with someone diagnosed with COVID-19, family members or housemates of those working in the poultry industry, and those with chronic medical conditions such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension, or compromised immune systems.

Coronavirus testing is available for all ages. Nemours AI DuPont will be available to provide pediatric patient testing.

Milford has not seen the number of cases detected in Georgetown but is at the edge of a cluster of poultry processing plants on the Delmarva Peninsula.

A number of processing plant workers and their families have been impacted by the virus, although the state has not released specifics.

To the south, Maryland’s Wicomico County Health Department will perform COVID-19 tests for residents of the Lower Eastern Shore, including chicken processing plant workers and their families.

Testing will be offered at  Arthur W Stadium in Salisbury from Thursday through Saturday.

The health department announced that the tests will be closed to media outlets in the area due to privacy concerns.

Public health officials have worried that immigrants with symptoms have been staying home over fears of being deported.

That may have contributed to the community spread of the virus.

While the testing is limited to  Lower Shore residents, the event shows the depth of concern over the prevalence of the virus on Delmarva.

Yesterday, it was disclosed that one test site in Sussex County, DE reported that a rate of positive cases of coronavirus of more than 30 percent.
