The Delaware Division of Health has rolled out a site that takes a deeper dive into coronavirus cases in Delaware.

Known as MyHealthyCommunity, the site lists cases by zip code.

The site,  while pressed into action for the coronavirus crisis, also  includes information by zip code on drug overdose deaths, depression, tobacco use and other health matters.

The site was unveiled at a press briefing held by Gov. John Carney on Friday afternoon.

A look at the site showed Sussex County has a far higher incidence of coronavirus cases than New Castle or Kent counties.

The rate of cases per 10,000 residents is 94.6 in Sussex, compared to 35.9 in Kent and 27 in New Castle.

Statewide information showed that the Hispanic community is seeing a far higher rate of infections. Latinos account for 18 percent of cases in Delaware, despite accounting for nine percent of the population.

Cases have been concentrated in the Georgetown-Millsboro area in southern Delaware. A large Latino  immigrant population works at poultry plants and other businesses.

In the 19947 zip code in the Georgetown area, the rate per 10,000 is 264 cases. By contrast, the 19711 zip code in the Newark area has a 17.4 rate for every 10,000 cases, with 19810 (Arden, north Wilmington) at 13 cases.

One popular Sussex County business, Nicola Pizza in Rehoboth Beach announced it will close until May 7 out of concern for the rising rate of cases in the county. Nicola had been offering carryout service.

The New Castle area 19702) and once listed as a hotspot for COVID-19 cases, has a 35.4 per 10,000 rate.

African Americans account for a 27 percent of COVID-19 cases, slightly higher than their total percentage of the population.

Whites account for about a quarter of all cases, with the unknown category accounting for 24 percent. The unknown category came about because private labs did not list race on their orders.

The state later ordered that race be listed  and future tests will reduce the impact of the unknown cases.

As for the percentage of  COVID-19 deaths, African Americans account for 29 percent of the total, slightly higher than their share of the total population, with whites at 69 percent, roughly the same as their share of total population, with the tyipcally younger Latino population at 4 percent.

A large percentage of coronavirus deaths have been linked to long-term care facilities.
