Delaware ranks low in rate of holiday crime

Alarms.org  ranked Delaware near the bottom in the rate of holiday crime.

The Holiday Crime Report that details the states most (and least) affected by crime during the holiday season. Delaware ranked as the eighth-lowest state when it comes to holiday crime.

The report combines variables to calculate crime scores for each state in an attempt to inform homeowners of potential risks while also providing tips to reduce risks. One tip – wait until Christmas to put  gifts under the tree

Florida had the highest rate of holiday crime, with Maine coming in with the lowest rate. The holiday crime rate in Maine is 4.5 times less than for Florida. With the exception of Michigan,  states with high holiday crime rates are in the Sunbelt.

 Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland were in the lower tier of states when it came to holiday crime.

Crime tends to trend upwards during the final months of the year going hand-in-hand with the increase in shopping and gift-giving.

 The Holiday Crime Report consists of crime scores that were calculated by assessing, per capita, arrests throughout the year (particularly during November and December), gun ownership, poverty rate, and urbanization rate.
