Delaware is the 17th most diverse state in the nation.

The ranking came from the WalletHub financial advice site.

The least diverse state is West Virginia, with California as the most diverse.

The report noted that the  U.S. Census Bureau predicts that by 2044 the U.S. will no longer have a single ethnic majority, currently non-Hispanic whites, and will grow increasingly more diverse in the years to follow.

The ranking went beyond racial diversity to include income diversity, industry diversity, political diversity and birthplace diversity (migration).

Diversity is not as pronounced in the corporate world. For example, there are only 33 women among the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, and around 66 percent of those companies’ board members are white.

The report did not go into the issue of diversity and the upcoming presidential election.

The least diverse states have tended to be “red states” that vote Republican, with more diverse states voting Democratic or, like Florida, emerging as “battleground states.”
