A southern New Jersey company was awarded a contract on another big project on Route 141 in the New Castle area.
R.E. Pierson’s bid came in at $69.9 million for the project that runs along Route 141. Pierson is based in Woodstown, NJ. Its bid came in about $4.5 million below the Delaware Department of Transportation engineer’s estimate.
The project will extend from the Route 141-I95-295 interchange and run south to Commons Boulevard and to Jay Drive across from New Castle County Airport and the Air National Guard base.
Improvement include reconstruction of the highway, drainage improvement, signal replacements, utility relocations and replacement of bridges over southbound I-95.
Route 141 has seen continuous construction work in recent years, including emergency work that closed a bridge. The north end of Route 141 underwent a widening project.
Bridges in the area have reached the half-century mark.
To the north and east another big project slated to begin in a couple of years will rebuild aging I-95 viaducts that run through Wilmington. The project is expected to lead to major disruptions.
