Diamond State Financial Group president named

[Not a valid template]Christopher Burgos  has been named President with Diamond State Financial Group. He joined Diamond State Financial Group in 2000 and graduated from University of Delaware with a dual Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Management and a minor in Economics.  

Faw  Casson  names  managing  partner

Faw Casson announced that  James E. Arthur,   CPA has been named as Managing Partner of the Firm’s Dover office.

Arthur is a Certified Public Accountant and has served the clients of the firm since 2003. He currently is the Director of Employee Benefit Plan Audits, and is heavily involved with the Firm’s Estate and Trust services. Jim is a member of the AICPA and DSCPA, and sits on the Board of Directors of the Dover YMCA. 

Lathem sworn in as  River and Bay chairman

Delaware Governor John Carney administered the Oath of Office to the Delaware River and Bay Authority’s new Commission Chairman , Samuel E. Lathem.  His current five-year term extends to July 1, 2020.

A retired member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) and U.S. Army veteran, Lathem worked nearly 40 years for Chrysler Motors at the Newark, DE facility, retiring in June 2004.

An ordained Baptist minister, Lathem is a lifetime member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). His other civic and community activities include serving as a board member on the Delaware Council on Labor, Chairman of Delaware Council on Vocational Education, and as a member of the Workforce Development Council. Lathem is a former board member of United Way of Delaware, Junior Achievement, Interagency Council on Literacy, Diamond State Port Corporation, Urban League and the Coalition of Black Trade Unions (CBTU).

The Delaware Art Museum announces new board members

  • The Delaware Art Museum announced that it added six new board members at its May Annual Members Meeting.The new members are: 
  • Barak A. Bassman, a partner in the health sciences department and antitrust and trial and dispute resolution practice groups of Pepper Hamilton LLP’s Philadelphia office.
  • Joan Bernard, owner of the Barbizon Model & Talent agencies located in Wilmington and Philadelphia.
  • Stephanie Hoopes, Ph.D., director of the ALICE Project. Previously, Dr. Hoopes was an assistant professor at Rutgers University-Newark, Columbia University, and the universities of Sussex and Birmingham in the United Kingdom. 
  • Sandra K. James leads issues and crisis communications for Corteva Agriscience, the former DowDuPont agriculture business
  • Mattie Moore, a television and film producer, actress, and author.
  • Christine Moritz, director of operations for Eastern States Group.

Downtown Visions names board chair

Downtown Visions appointed new Board Chair, Adam Landis Esq., founding partner of Landis Rath & Cobb LLP. 

 Landis states that “I am honored to have been chosen to fill this important position and look forward to being able to be a part of the revitalization of our Downtown.”

Bayhealth officers elected

Bayhealth’s Board of Directors announced the appointment of its officers for the 2019-2020 term: Chair William J. Strickland, Vice Chair Sharad C. Patel, MD, Vice Chair Jeffrey A. Young, Esq., President and Bayhealth CEO;  Terry M. Murphy, FACHE; Secretary Rebecca B. Kidner, Esq.; and Treasurer ; and Bayhealth Chief Financial Officer Michael J. Tretina. 

Board members also re-elected Strickland to a new four-year term, and elected Gertrude Findley-Christian, MD, to a four-year term.

Bayhealth operates two hospitals and associated activities  in Kent and Sussex counties
