Regional supermarket chain Wegmans ranked  No. 3 in the 2019  Best Places to Work For ranking  published by Fortune. Ranking first was lodging giant Hilton, with Bank of America making the list for the first time.

Best  Places mainstay W.L. Gore went a second year without being on the list.

Wegmans was in the news last week when it was learned that the company plans to build a location in the former Barley Mill Plaza DuPont complex, pending county approvals. The family-owned company has about 100, including a store in Glen Mills, PA, a short drive from the Delaware state line.

The annual list from Fortune Magazine/website and Great Places to Work ranks the top 100 workplaces in the nation.

No Delaware-based companies were on the listing. Companies on the list go through a certification process that includes the use of employee feedback.

For two decades, materials Gore was a mainstay on the top 100  a point of pride for the low-key, privately held company known for a   structure that eschews job titles and makes group-based decisions.

Newark-based Gore dropped off the list in 2018 and did not return this year.  According to Best Places to Work, Gore remains a certified company  with the program.

Reasons for dropping out of the top 100 remain unclear, although it is known that Gore  underwent voluntary employee buyouts and other steps that it had traditionally avoided over the years.

Also, CEO and longtime Gore Associate  Terri Kelli retired and a new chief executive was picked from the company’s fast-growing medical products division, which is based in Arizona.

A Gore spokeswoman did not respond to an email request for comment.
