Marijuana legalization is expected to be considered in this year’s session of the General Assembly.

Last year’s bill fell in a few votes short in the House. The two sponsors of the bill later decided not to run for re-election.

Since the defeat of the bill in Delaware some states have been  moving toward full legalization, including neighboring New Jersey. Legislators are also eying additional revenues that would come from regulating and taxing marijuana.

A well-organized legalization group has remained active, since the measure was rejected. Legalization has widespread support among legislators, but has detractors that include elements of the medical community and AAA Mid-Atlantic.
