The fast-growing Milford area will get a steak and seafood restaurant.

MilfordLive.com reported  that  the owner of The Palace, an Italian restaurant in Milford plans to convert a former Bob Evans restaurant into a steak and seafood establishment.

Steve Akoglo, owner of The Palace said a gap in the market exists for a steak and seafood concept. The Palace offers Italian food. The restaurant could open in the spring of 2019 after going renovation and expansion.

The mature chain has faced growing competition from a revived iHop and more upscale diner and brunch chains.

The Milford area has been growing rapidly, with the economy spurred by the nearly quarter of a billion dollar Sussex Campus that will replace Milford Memorial Hospital early next year.

Plans have also been announced for a movie theater complex in the city on the Kent-Sussex County line.

The Bob Evans chain has closed restaurants over the years that do not meet sales expectations, although it maintains a sizable presence in Delaware.

The restaurants are part of the company’s strategy to have a presence in areas where its sausage products are big sellers in grocery stores. The restaurant chain was sold off following the death of the founder of the company.

A representative of The Palace did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the new steakhouse.
