The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control will hold a public meeting Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington to allow Delawareans to voice their views on the EPA’s proposal to repeal the federal Clean Power Plan and replace it with the Affordable Clean Energy rule proposed by EPA in August.

The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. 815 Justison Street, Wilmington. The EPA rejected holding a hearing in Delaware or anywhere else than Chicago on Oct. 11.

The Trump Administration  has worked to dismantle clean air regulations developed during the Obama administration, claiming they will do little to improve the air and claiming that shutdowns of coal-fired power plants pose a national security risk.

Regional grid manager PJM has refuted those claims and

The  ACE rule can be found at EPA’s website (https://www.epa.gov/stationary-sources-air-pollution/proposal-affordable-clean-energy-ace-rule).

“Delawareans know the state is already experiencing detrimental impacts from climate change caused by greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels,” said DNREC Secretary Shawn M. Garvin. “We are moving ahead with this meeting because the Affordable Clean Energy Rule offers little in the way of real greenhouse gas emission reductions from the power sector. We are holding the meeting so that Delawareans and East Coast citizens have an opportunity to participate in the decision that will directly impact their lives and environment.”

DNREC anticipates limiting each speaker to between 3-5 minutes at the meeting but may adjust the time depending on the number of people who register to speak. Anyone wishing to speak at DNREC’s public meeting on EPA’s proposed Affordable Clean Energy Rule is asked to register no later than Oct. 9 by sending an email to: Valerie.gray@state.de.us.
