Downtown Wilmington Mexican restaurant Cocino Lolo has closed.

The restaurant from the well-known chef from Bryan Sikora took down its Facebook page, with reservations no longer available on Open Table. Sikora and wife Andrea also operate  La Fia on Market Street and more recently opened a restaurant in Kennett Square.

Last year, Lolo was closed for the summer but reopened in the fall. The restaurant first opened in 2015.

The popular TripAdvisor and  Yelp web pages offered mixed reviews on service and food, with the sites having far fewer reviews on Lolo than on La Fia.

In a story in Out and About from food writer Pam George co-owner Andrea Sikora said more adventurous dishes at Lolo did not fare well as diners preferred more basic fare.

The closing would appear to clear the way for a Mexican restaurant in the Market Street area of  Wilmington. The downtown corridor has seen the opening of a number of new establishments in the past couple of years. The most recent offers French cuisine.

Mexican cuisine remains popular, with Mexican restaurants in Delaware offering diverse dishes from various areas of the nation that go beyond Tex-Mex mainstays like tacos, enchiladas and burritos.

La Fia continues to have its fans in the region and attracts fans of Sikora from the Philadelphia area.

Unlike La Fia, Lolo was on King Street, a short walk away from the growing restaurant area along Market Street.  Lolo was also tucked away in an office building.

La Fia owners’ new restaurant slated to open on July 15
