Boat fire loss valued at $40,000

A 24-foot  boat with the name “Sanity”  was destroyed at a marina near Elkton.

The fire took place at  Triton Marina, 285 Plum Point Road on Monday afternoon and took a crew of 25 from Elkton’s  Singerly Volunteer Fire Company 20 minutes to control.

The total amount of the  loss was listed by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office at $40,000, $30,000 for the boat and the remainder for contents. 

The cause remains under Investigation. The owner reported he was working on the fuel line at the time of the fire, The boat was docked and repairs were being made at the time of the fire. 

The owner attempted to extinguish the fire with a portable fire extinguisher and attempted to locate another extinguisher on a nearby vessel while a family member notified marina staff.

No other boats were damaged as a result of the fire, the Fire Marshal’s office reported.
