American Airlines will begin seasonal service between the Delaware Valley and four new European cities in 2019.

The cities are  Berlin, Bologna, Dubrovnik, and Edinburgh.

When the new service begins next spring, Philadelphia International Airport  will offer the only non-stop flights in North America to Bologna  and Dubrovnik, a city in Croatia.  Berlin, Bologna and Dubrovnik will be served for the first time from Philadelphia.

The international flights  are an economic plus for Delaware and region  when it comes to drawing international tourists and multinational corporations with ties to Europe.

The service to Edinburgh   Airport will operate daily from  April 2 to Oct.  26, 2019. American is moving this service to the Scottish capital from JFK Airport in New York City. Earlier  this year, American also relocated its Zurich service to Philadelphia from JFK.

The American service to Berlin-Tegel Airport will operate four times weekly from June 7 – September 28, and the flights to Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport (BLQ) will run four times weekly from June 6  to  September 28.

The flights to Dubrovnik Airport   will operate three times weekly from June 7 to Sept. 27.

“We are excited that American is not only adding new international destinations from Philadelphia, but introducing cities that have never been served from PHL,” said airport CEO Chellie Cameron. “This is great news for the entire Philadelphia region and to our connecting passenger base as well.”

Earlier this year, American launched non-stop international service from Philadelphia  to Budapest, Prague, Zurich and Mexico City in addition to seven new domestic cities.

The move was part of a schedule restructuring that is adding flights to Europe. Meanwhile,   American’s service to Asia  from Chicago will be cut further as it focuses on Dallas as its gateway to that continent. Fuel costs were cited as one of the reasons for the change in Chicago.
