Calagiones to receive History Makers Award

Sam and Mariah Calagione will receive the History Makers Award at an event on April 19 at The  Queen Theater and the Delaware History Museum.

The Calagiones co-founded the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in restaurant space in Rehoboth Beach.

The company has since grown into the nation’s 12th largest craft brewer and one of the 25 largest U.S. brewers. Its production brewery is in Milton.  The Calagiones also own two restaurants in Rehoboth Beach and an inn in Lewes.

At 6 p.m., the  Calagiones will receive the award at a ceremony at the Queen Theater at 500 N. Market St., Wilmington. They will then talk about the craft brewing business.

At 7 p.m., a  reception will be held at the Delaware History Museum at 504 N. Market Street featuring hors d’ oeuvres and beer pairings, a light buffet, live music, and Dogfish Head beer and spirits.

The Delaware History Makers Award began in 2007 and supports the Delaware Historical Society’s award-winning education programs. Past honorees include Ed and Peggy Woolard, Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Toni Young, The Hon. Pete Du Pont, Ken Burns, Harold R. “Tubby” Raymond, Dr. Carol Hoffecker, Rev. Roberto Balducelli, Rev. Canon Lloyd Casson, Ellen Kullman, The Hon. Michael N. Castle, Bryan Stevenson, Rod Ward III, and The Hon. Andre Bouchard.
