Happy icy morning,

Angela Mamo wants Delaware Business Now readers to know that her Glen Mills restaurant is offering a tasty selection of Italian offerings.

The restaurant,  Angelina’s Italian Grill, is the newest occupant of restaurant space occupied by Mile High Steak & Seafood.

We are passing along her message because  Delaware Business Now ended up covering Mile High after the  steak and seafood spot that attracted a number of Delaware diners  abruptly closed in 2016.

Customers had been lured by good steaks and a  buy one, get one free deal.  When one considers the price of a nice steak, it was no surprise that the gift  cards flew out the door.

Other restaurant owners shook their heads. After all, steak is often a  break-even proposition. It’s the sides and drinks that make the difference

The outcome was predictable and perhaps hundreds of thousands of dollars in  gift cards were rendered useless.

Mile High had its fans. One former diner and area restauranteur opened the short-lived Bardolino Italian Steakhouse at the Baltimore Pike location in 2017.

But Bardolino struggled with the legacy of the former tenant. A 10 percent discount was offered for a time for gift card holders, with the new owner noting that he had $600 in Mile High gift cards.

Mamo’s  Angelina’s Italian Grill, a BYOB establishment,  opened in November of last year and has earned a  3.9 rating among diners using the OpenTable reservations service.

Strangely enough, a  few former Mile High customers still believe that the latest occupant of the restaurant space has an obligation to honor the gift cards.

It’s a battle that Mamo will continue to fight. In the meantime, we plan to head up 202 and check out Angelina’s. There’s always room for another good Italian restaurant.
