Kent County home sales showed strength in February.
Figures from the TREND Multiple Listing Service showed the average sales price in Kent County came within $3,000 of the $198,000 price in New Castle County. The gap has normally been about $10,000.
Home sales in New Castle declined from 411 in February 2016 compared to 388 during the same month in 2017.
Home sales in Kent rose from 117 in February 2016 to 154. However, the average number of days homes were on the market in February 2017 in Kent County was 70 compared to 51 in New Castle County.
Brokers in northern Delaware have reported a shortage of homes in lower-priced home categories, with some weaknesses in the upper end of the markets.
Kent County has seen a slow economic recovery, due in part to hiring curbs at Dover Air Force Base and to some extent in state government.
