Delmarva furniture retailer Johnny Janosik has opened a new store near Dover.
The store opened its doors late last week with a formal opening in early March at 4719 South DuPont Highway.
The publication Furniture Today reported the store/showroom occupies 60,000-square feet in Camden and will combine two existing locations that are near one another on DuPont Highway.
A Cape Gazette story reported that Gillis Gilkerson, Salisbury, MD, will be the contractor for the showroom that will be developed by DEVRECO, a Salisbury-based development firm.
Janosik’s flagship location is an 180,000-square-foot store in Laurel in western Sussex County. The store is one of the largest on the East Coast. The company also operates a clearance center in Laurel.
A single Dover location had been in the works for years.
Johnny Janosik is one of the best known retail names on the Delmarva Peninsula, thank its extensive advertising and the story of its founder, Johnny Janosik, a former TV repairman who built the store from a former chicken house.
The company has also kept up with the latest technology and aired a drone flight of the massive Laurel location. (See video above).
Store founder Johnny Janosik passed away this summer.
