YMCA to open center in Middletown

2_l8i7f9The YMCA of Delaware plans to open a center in  Middletown next year.

Currently, the YMCA provides before and after-school programs in the Appoquinimink school district.

A new 6,400 square foot YMCA facility located at 400 North Cass Street, is slated to open in early 2017.

The Y has long been rumored to  have plans for a large center in  the fast-growing area. The closest  Y to Middletown is in Glasgow.

Members will have access to a state-of-the-art fitness center with cardio machines and weight equipment, a movement studio for a wide variety of classes, a Kids Zone with free babysitting services, youth programs including summer camp, teen leadership activities and  other services.

There will also be indoor and outdoor seating areas to meet with friends and build community.

“We’re very excited to establish a permanent presence in Middletown with plans to build a large full-service YMCA in the years to come,” said Deborah Bagatta-Bowles, CEO  of the YMCA of Delaware. “Our hope is to be a positive force in Middletown, bring our young people and adults into the Y, and cater our services to the needs of the community We are so pleased to finally be moving forward with our long-term vision for Middletown and the surrounding areas, and we plan to keep pace with the growth in this area.:

“We are looking forward to welcoming the Y into our MOT community,” said Roxane Ferguson, executive director of the Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce. “Middletown continues to attract individuals, families and businesses and is considered one of the healthiest towns in this state so we believe the Y is a natural fit for our area.”

Specific information about membership rates, class schedules and program offerings will be available soon and member registration will open in the coming weeks.
