In 1999, the Delaware General Assembly passed legislation that allowed Delawareans to choose their electricity supplier.

However, relatively few customers signed up over the past couple of decades.

Direct Energy, the electric supplier exclusively contracted with by the State of Delaware, will hold the first in a series of town hall meetings to educate residents about their choices related to energy providers.

Direct was brought on board to jump-start deregulation and offers longer-term price guarantees.
