Food Bank announces board, officers

The Food Bank of Delaware announced a slate of new officers and the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors.

The following officers have been elected to the Food Bank of Delaware’s Executive Committee:  Julie Miro Wenger, Chairwoman (Executive Director, Delaware Food Industry Council), Theron J Roe, Past Chair (Director of Strategic Markets, TRC), Patricia D. Beebe (President and CEO, Food Bank of Delaware), Tom Neylon, Vice Chair, Finance (Vice President & Tax/Corporate Finance, Syngenta), Andy Larmore, Vice Chair, Strategic Planning (Vice President, Bayshore Transportation), Ali Khan, Vice Chair, Governance (Service Manager, Barclays) and Shawn Williams, Vice Chair, Advancement (Vice President – Relationship Manager Commercial Lending Delaware Division, Bryn Mawr Trust Company)

The Food Bank of Delaware’s Board of Directors is composed of 23 leaders from the business, education community, and nonprofit sectors.  They are responsible for developing policies, procedures, and regulations for the operation of the Food Bank of Delaware, generating finances/resources for the organization and monitoring its programs and performance.

ILC Dover certifications

ILC Dover announced that Jon Hinkle, P.E., CFM, Sr. design engineer, Jenna Matthews, CFM, design engineer and Jeff Roushey, P.E., CFM, product engineer, are now certified by the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM).

ASFPM has established a national program for certifying floodplain managers, which recognizes continuing education and professional development that enhances the knowledge and performance of local, state, federal, and private-sector floodplain management professionals.

ILC flood barrier systems are currently being installed by New York City Transit and a major electrical utility to address subway and power generation facility flood protection needs.

Crumrine joins Chamber staff

Denée Crumrine has joined the staff of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce as Communications Manager.

She previously worked for the Chamber as Program and Communications Specialist. Her career experience includes Delaware BioScience Association and Harford County Public Schools.

She is a graduate of the University of Delaware and is a volunteer at Exceptional Care for Children.

Wheeler Wolfenden and Dwares announces promotions

Wheeler Wolfenden and Dwares, CPAs (WW&D) announced three staff promotions.

Courtney J. Bare, CPA has been promoted to Supervisor. Bare joined the WW&D staff in 2013. She is a graduate of James Madison University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.

Jodi L. Bouchard has been promoted to Supervisor. Bouchard joined the WW&D staff in 2011. She is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

William T. Lonergan, CPA has been promoted to Senior Accountant. Lonergan joined the WW&D staff in 2014. He is a graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance.

Christiana Care appointment

Matthew Hoffman, M.D., MPH, FACOG, has been appointed as the new Marie E. Pinizzotto, M.D., Endowed Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Christiana Care.

Since joining Christiana Care in 1995, Hoffman has helped guide the department and the health system to provide greater quality and value. He has served as vice chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Division of Education and Research since 2011. His previous roles included director of outpatient services for women’s health and associate residency program director

Hoffman serves on a number of committees nationally and at Christiana Care. He is an adviser to the Joint Commission on obstetrical issues and a national measure steward for quality markers in obstetrics. He holds a gubernatorial appointment on the Delaware Domestic Violence Coordinating Council.

As director of Obstetrical and Gynecological Research at Christiana Care, Dr. Hoffman has conducted studies and led initiatives that have contributed to reducing the infant mortality rate in Delaware and the use of unnecessary medical procedures during childbirth with the aim of improving the quality of patient care. He is also a funded researcher doing work both nationally and internationally on behalf of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development’s (NICHD) Maternal Fetal Medicine Units Network, NICHD’s Global Network and private foundations.

He is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He frequently lectures on women’s health issues, including domestic violence, pediatric gynecology, menopause and obstetrical emergencies. He is a reviewer for several medical journals in his field, including Obstetrics & Gynecology and the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Hoffman earned his medical degree in 1991 from the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in 1995. In 1998, he earned a master’s degree in public health with a sub-specialization in maternal child health research from Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health.

Saint Francis director appointed to council

Scott Dickson, M.D., Medical Director of Emergency Medicine for Saint Francis Healthcare, has been appointed as one of 20 members to serve on the Delaware Emergency Medical Services Oversight Council (DEMSOC) by Governor Jack Markell. The council is responsible for monitoring Delaware’s Emergency Medical Services to ensure that the system is performing in a coordinated, effective and efficient manner.

Delaware’s EMS system is focused on improving the quality of life for the citizens of and visitors to the state and reducing morbidity and mortality rates, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality emergency care services.

Dickson is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.  Prior to joining Saint Francis Healthcare, he served as medical director, quality control office and attending emergency physician at Virtua Memorial Hospital. He previously deployed to the Middle East during Operation Iraqi Freedom and served as medical director at Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base.

Moore College  hires Armstrong

Mellany Armstrong was named the associate director of communications for Moore College of Art & Design, Philadelphia.

Armstrong comes to Moore after a long career in radio news. She has worked as an anchor, reporter and editor at radio stations KYW and WWDB-FM in Philadelphia, and was an anchor and reporter for WBAL in Baltimore and WDEL in Wilmington, Delaware.

In 2014, she was named Distinguished Alumna in Communications by her alma mater, St. Francis University in Loretto, Pa.

Most recently, she worked as a writer in the community investment division of Comcast. She has also written for the Delaware Community Foundation.

New pastor at St. Stephens’s

St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church welcomed Rev. Jason Churchill as its senior pastor.

Churchill, a lifelong resident of Illinois, is a 2016 graduate of the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and a member of Augustana Lutheran Church of Hyde Park. Since attending seminary, He has lived in the Chicago neighborhood of Hyde Park. He attended Elmhurst College, graduating in 2003 with a degree in political science and geography. For a short time he taught and then moved to work in student finance in higher education – thus making him a second career pastor.

Churchill is a certified mission developer and redeveloper. He specializes in stewardship and reaching out into the community to effectively grow the church through developing relationships that strengthen the core values of the church and the gospel.

St. Stephen’s is home to the largest volume food pantry in the state of Delaware.
