Michigan Manufacturing International (MMI) is celebrating 25 years in business. Headquartered in Stevensville, MD, the company has enjoyed steady growth over the years and currently employs 80 people.
The Eastern Shore-based company was founded in 1991 in Michigan by Jacob Prak. A former applications engineer for GE Plastics and SKF USA, his initial goal was to help solve his customers’ supply and design problems.
When the company moved to Maryland in 1998, the name remained the same. A number of moves were necessary as the operation outgrew each location. In November 2013, MMI built a 40,000 square foot building and currently occupies 12,000 square feet of that space.
In the early days, MMI served customers in Michigan and Ohio. Later the service area extended to Pennsylvania and Maryland. Currently MMI has customers across the nation with an additional manufacturing facility in India. Originally MMI offered only components; today the company concentrates on assemblies and whole products that solve its customers’ design and supply challenges.
When asked about his plans for the future of MMI, Prak said, “The market for manufactured goods is changing drastically. We plan to grow by continuing to build our knowledge concerning the best options for supply chain management and providing the best high-quality products and services to our customers.”
