schellSchell Brothers, Rehoboth Beach,  unveiled a new incentive. The Live Free!  incentive provides homebuyers with two  years of free electric and property taxes.

A limited number of offers are available, and the promotion expires at the end of June. Schell Brothers has most of its communities in Coastal Sussex County, DE, an area with the lowest property taxes in the region. The company also has one development in New Castle County and recently launched operations in the Richmond, VA area.

“We asked our homebuyers why they bought a new Schell home  and many told us they wanted to escape the high, recurring costs associated with their prior home,” said Chris Schell, CEO of Schell Brothers. “We started asking ourselves, ‘How can we give our buyers, even more, financial freedom and peace of mind?’ ‘What if they didn’t have to worry about things like paying property taxes or electric bills?’ And that’s how we came up with Live Free!

The incentive comes on top of other incentives that depending on the community can include $20,000 off the base price or a free finished basement. Home prices for Schell Brothers run $300,000 or more.

Kiplinger Personal Finance Magazine recently named Delaware as one of the most tax-friendly states for retirees.  “Many of our buyers expected to move to states like Florida or North Carolina for retirement and weren’t considering Delaware,” said Schell.  “After visiting though, people just fall in love with Delaware and all the benefits of living here.  Retirees who have family near D.C., BaltimorePhiladelphia, or even New York City love the fact that they’re just a short drive away from their family.”
