Ceremony to mark opening of packaging plant in Newark area

 AB-315x274 The Republic of Ireland’s Ambassador to the U.S. will be on hand for the formal opening of a packaging plant on Friday afternoon.

Ambassador Anne Anderson will join Gov. Jack Markell and U.S. Senator Chris Coons at the ceremony at AB Group Packaging.

 On hand will be  CEO Dermot Brady and other executives and staff from AB Group Packaging.

The plant is the Irish company’s first in the United States. AB Group Packaging, a 30-year-old  manufacturer of paper bags and flexible packaging products, also operates plants in Ireland, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The company plans to create nearly 90 manufacturing jobs at the facility by 2017 and anticipates additional workforce growth in the future.

The new A-B plant was first announced in late June of 2015.

The company received $375,000 in assistance from the state in return for adding jobs.
