Budget director nominated

Gov. Jack  Markell  announced that he will nominate Brian Maxwell, Deputy Director at the Office of Management and Budget for more than three years, to lead the agency when Director Ann Visalli departs next month. Markell will submit Maxwell for consideration by the State Senate when the General Assembly returns to session.

Having helped lead the work to balance the state budget for the past seven years and with his background in finance, Maxwell is well-positioned to build on the Administration’s efforts to promote fiscal responsibility while making key investments in the state’s economy, education, and quality of life. Prior to becoming Deputy Director, he served as OMB’s Director of Budget Development and Administration and as Cash and Debt Manager for the Treasurer’s Office from 2005 to 2009, during Markell’s time as State Treasurer. Maxwell previously worked as an Assistant Vice President at Citigroup Inc., managing parts of the company’s global loans initiatives.

Visalli named COO of St. Andrew’s

State Office of Management  Budget  Director Ann Shepard Visalli  has been named as Chief Operating Officer of. Andrew’s School in Middletown.

Visalli began her career in public service at the Department of Services for Children, Youth and their Families and in the Controller General’s Office in the General Assembly. She went on to work with State Treasurer and later Gov. Jack Markell.

Visalli is expected to end her 22 years of service to the State of Delaware in May.

Bohn named building director

Jerry A. Bilton, Executive Director of The Community Service Building Corporation, announced Jaime Bowman Bohn as facility director.

Bohn earned a management degree from the University of Delaware and is a certified facility manager. She previously worked as operations director for the Grand Opera House for 17 years.

Thome named Sallie Mae EVP

Sallie Mae, has promoted Paul F. Thome to executive vice president.

Thome serves as the company’s chief administration officer and president of Sallie Mae Bank, a position he has held since 2011. He is responsible for the bank’s retail deposit business, the Office of the Customer Advocate, procurement, and facilities and support services. In addition, he chairs the bank’s Operational Risk Committee.

He has more than 40 years of experience in the financial services industry. A Certified Public Accountant, he began his career with Coopers and Lybrand. He has held senior executive roles at MBNA America, First Tennessee, and Maryland National Corporation. Prior to joining Sallie Mae in 2009, Thome was a founding partner of Credit One Financial Solutions and served as its chief financial officer.

Thome currently serves as a director on the boards of the Utah Association of Financial Services, the National Association of Industrial Bankers, and Junior Achievement of Utah.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from Augustana College.

 Bench joins Benchworks

Benchworks   announced that Thad L. Bench II has joined the company that his father Thad L. Bench, Sr., co-founded. He will be responsible for marketing activities for Benchworks and Safe Chain Solutions, a Benchworks company, along with business development initiatives.

Prior to joining Benchworks, Bench II by Hyatt Commercial in Annapolis, MD. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and was part of the nationally ranked St. Mary’s sailing team.

New roles for Dogfish Head team members

To keep up with demand in the brewing world, Dogfish Head has recently developed new roles within the brewing team. Brewing Supervisors, Seth Limanek and John Klein will be assuming the roles of Brewing Manager and R&D Brewing Manager, respectively, while Brewer Liz Stairs moves into the role of Process Improvement Special.

Evans retires from State Police

The Delaware State Police announces today, the retirement of Major Jeffrey R. Evans who has served for 29 years.

Evans was hired on September 4, 1987 into the 55th Delaware State Police Recruit Class. He began his career assigned to Troop 9 during his Field Training Officers’ Program and then was later assigned to uniformed patrol at Troop 6 in Wilmington. In April of 1990 he distinguished himself and became a member of the Aviation Unit as a Paramedic. He quickly excelled, and on November 16, 1994 was promoted to Sergeant and then to Lieutenant in charge of the Aviation Unit on June 15, 2000. After three years he was promoted to Captain and was assigned as the Commander of Troop 6. After four years as Troop 6 Commander, Jeffrey R. Evans was promoted to the prestigious rank of Major where he joined the Executive Staff as the Administrative Officer on April 4, 2014.

Gartner named CBRE retail director

CBRE Group, Inc. announced that Steven H. Gartner has been appointed to Managing Director of Retail for the Greater Pennsylvania Region.  Gartner will lead CBRE’s retail brokerage platform throughout the region, driving growth and creating a cohesive and collaborative service offering for retail clients.  He will continue to actively maintain strategic client relationships both in Philadelphia and across the country.

With a thirty year career entirely dedicated to commercial real estate brokerage, Gartner will oversee all retail activities in Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware, while also becoming an integral component in driving CBRE’s national focus beyond the region.

He joined CBRE in December 2014 as Executive Vice President for Retail as a part of its Global High Street Retail Practice for both occupiers and owners, and in his new role, will still be involved in growing that endeavor. Prior to joining CBRE, he served as President and Partner of Metro Commercial Real Estate, and before that, he was chief Operating Officer of Michael Salove Company (now MSC Retail).
