Christiana Care Health System was again named among “the best of the best” by Truven Health Analytics as one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the U.S. The system also won Truven’s Everest Award winner for the second consecutive year.
Christiana Care is again the only health system in the Delaware Valley region to earn the Everest honor and the only teaching hospital honored for two straight years.
The selected organizations lead the nation’s 3,000 hospitals in consistent, long-term excellence in care, efficiency and community value, a release stated. This is the fourth 100 Top Hospitals ranking for Christiana Care, which was only one of 17 hospitals in the nation to receive the Everest Award. The Everest Award goes for hospitals showing the greatest rate of improvement over five years.

The award recognizes the 100 Top Hospitals that have achieved excellence in 11 areas, including patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability.
Researchers based the 100 Top Hospitals on public information – Medicare cost reports, Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR) data, and core measures and patient satisfaction data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare website. Hospitals do not apply, and winners do not pay to market the honor.
Truven Health reports that the 100 Top Hospitals outperform their peers by demonstrating excellence and operating effectively across all functional areas. The study shows that if all hospitals in the U.S. performed at the level of this year’s winners:
- More than 104,000 additional lives could be saved.
- Nearly 48,400 additional patients could be complication-free.
- 2 billion in inpatient costs could be saved.

- Christiana Care Health System is one of the country’s largest health care systems, ranking as the 22nd leading hospital in the nation and 12th on the East Coast regarding admissions.
