Former FBI director and bank executive Louis Freeh is leaving a Philadelphia law firm, the Philadelphia Business Journal reported.

The publication reported that he will reactivate the Freeh Sporkin & Sullivan law firm that he operated prior to joining Pepper Hamilton in 2012.

Freeh served as chairman of Pepper, which has an office in Wilmington, but stepped down in 2014. He is no longer listed on the Pepper website.

The Freeh Sporkin & Sullivan law firm continued to maintain a website after Freeh joined Pepper.

In addition to the law firm, Freeh operated a consulting practice Freeh Group International Solutions,  which  maintains an office on Kennett Pike,  near Wilmington.

He headed an aggressive probe into the scandal at the football program at  Penn State University. The report’s findings   did not endear him with many alumni and fans of the program at State College, who found his report to be unfair to the late coach Joe Paterno and others.

Freeh  was also in the news a few years ago when he was seriously injured in a traffic accident in New England.

Freeh was one of a number of top executives with law enforcement backgrounds who joined MBNA in its glory days in the 1990s.

The credit card bank, whose co-founder Charles Cawley passed away last year, saw many its top executives remain in the state after the buyout from  Bank of America.
