Delaware wrapped its arms around the Biden family with the passing of the former Attorney General. He was remembered in public viewings that drew thousands of mourners and in funeral mass that featured a eulogy by President Barack Obama.

Biden died in late spring  after a battle with brain cancer.

The son of Vice President Joe Biden had made early plans to run for governor, declining to run again for the AG’s post. He cited the need for the office to not be affected by a run for higher office.

That was in keeping with Biden’s determination to chart his own course  even though his father’s Senate seat and numerous other opportunities were available.

The vice president, more than once told interviewers about the heroic qualities he admired in his son.

Biden also joined the Delaware National Guard and served overseas.  He returned to his post as Attorney General as he continued to champion the rights of children.

As  Delaware  mourned his passing, a number of stories of his compassion and humility were told by people from all walks of life he encountered along the way.

An intensely private man, Biden would never have dreamt of touting his down-to-earth nature that belied his status as the heir to a possible Delaware political dynasty.

Following Biden’s death, the Delaware political scene remained quiet for governor. Cong. John Carney later announced his candidacy  for governor. State Sen. Colin Bonini and former state trooper Lacey Lafferty announced on the Republican side.

Their candidacies all remained low key throughout 2015,  with Carney emerging as an early favorite in a state where Democrats hold an edge in registration.
