Fox Rothschild has announced its plans to merge with the Minneapolis-based law firm of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP. In its most significant merger to date, Fox Rothschild LLP will boost its attorney headcount to more than 700 attorneys and expand its footprint to the Upper Midwest. Effective January 1, Fox will add all of Oppenheimer’s 82 attorneys.

Philadelphia-based Fox Rothschild has an office in Wilmington.

“Establishing a strong presence in the Upper Midwest is an important component in Fox’s overall strategic growth plan. The Oppenheimer firm offers us a chance to enter this important market in a robust way, adding an established group of attorneys with strong client relationships and deep roots in the community,” said Fox Rothschild Firmwide Managing Partner Mark L. Silow.

“This is also an especially good fit because our firms share many of the same strengths, and our clients will benefit from the depth we are adding with the Oppenheimer attorneys, especially in commercial litigation, corporate and M&A work,” he added.

The addition will position the firm as a leader in the Minneapolis market and will be one of Fox’s largest locations after Philadelphia.

Founded in 1886, the Oppenheimer firm is a leader in providing practical legal advice to businesses of all sizes — from startups to Fortune 500 corporations. The firm’s core practices include commercial litigation, financial services, medical technology, mergers and acquisitions, real estate finance and securities, with additional strengths in health care litigation, employee benefits, intellectual property and labor and employment.

Fox Rothschild now has offices in 12 states — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas— and the District of Columbia.

Fox has grown  in the past several years. Most recently, in April 2015, the firm added a team of gaming, corporate, litigation and real estate attorneys in Chicago, Illinois. The firm previously merged with 18-lawyer David & Goodman PC to open its Dallas, Texas office in October 2014.
