Fire at apartment building near Wilmington leaves one critically injured

fireThe Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating  Sunday morning  fire that heavily damaged a Wilmington area apartment building and left  one person critically injured.

The blaze, reported shortly before 5 a.m., occurred in the 600 block of Homestead Road in Alban Park near Maryland Avenue. The Five Points Fire Company arrived on the scene with smoke pouring from the occupied apartment building.  Five Points was assisted by neighboring fire companies and police patrol units.

A female was transported in critical condition to the Christiana Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.  New Castle County paramedics treated the patient.

Deputy fire marshals are on the scene searching for the fire’s  cause.  Four adults have been displaced.  The American Red Cross is providing emergency assistance.  Fire damage is estimated at $100,000.
