Delaware Bureau chief takes job on interim basis

Chris Satullo, the former vice president for news and civic dialogue at WHYY/NewsWorks, will join the Annenberg Public Policy Center as a professional in residence for the 2015-2016 spring semester. He will work on a project involving the intersection of media and civic engagement.

He was the founder of WHYY Newsworks, which is part of the radio and TV station’s hyperlocal online  news operation in Delaware and the Delaware Valley.  John Mussoni, who heads the Delaware operation for WHYY has succeeded Satullo on an interim basis.

“We’re thrilled to have a distinguished journalist who has also made important contributions to civic engagement joining us and helping to think through new ways to involve citizens in public life,” said Kathleen Hall Jamieson,   director of the Annenberg Public Policy Center.

“I’m excited to have an opportunity to work for a while inside such a creative and powerful intellectual environment,” Satullo said. “And I’m grateful to Kathleen Hall Jamieson for extending the invitation.”

Satullo joined WHYY in 2008 after nearly 20 years at the Philadelphia Inquirer.  While at WHYY, he launched the NewsWorks.org website, the radio programs NewsWorks Tonight and The Pulse, and statewide reporting initiatives, StateImpact Pa. and Keystone Crossroads.

At the Inquirer, he served as editorial page editor and a columnist, among other positions, Reasons for his departure from WHYY have not been disclosed, although there were reports of clashes with management.

The public broadcasting station in one of the nation’s largest markets, is headed by University of Delaware alumnus  William Marrazzo.
