The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce held its annual Networking Station Thursday night at the Chase Center on the Riverfront – minus a tireless champion of business networking.
The tabletop expo is believed to be the largest of its kind held in northern Delaware. This year, the event drew 133 exhibitors and about 600 attendees last night.
John McKay sold exhibitor tables at the long-running event but did much more in counseling many exhibitors and making sure they were happy with their space at the flat-floor exhibition center in Wilmington.
Wilmington native McKay and his wife Linda had moved to Lewes, where John was semi-retired, but remained active in business networking circles and in helping neighbors with fix-up chores in his new community.
While his career involved organizing events and managing and making sales of chamber memberships and other services, he is best remembered for giving his time to help business owners and managers better connect with the community.
He was a reliable source of news on business openings and was quick to connect with owners and managers.
McKay died at his home in Lewes earlier this year.
The State Chamber honored McKay’s work at the event and Linda was on hand to participate in the awarding of prizes. Next to the podium was a photo of John, who would not have wanted all that attention.
Instead, he would have been on the floor, making sure exhibitors were happy and sharing the latest business openings.
