Cecil College president  named to tech council

Cecil College President Dr. Mary Way Bolt has been named to the board of directors of the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council.

Created in 1990, and organized in 1991, the NMTC unites technology companies, growing enterprises, and government and academic leaders into a collective force to accelerate economic growth and expand the science, technology, education and math educated workforce in Maryland.

Its mission is to expand the conditions for technology growth in northeastern Maryland by 2018. With more than 200 members and advocates, the NMTC is focused on advancing innovation and technology, building a STEM-educated workforce, and connecting business leaders to opportunities.

“Cecil College plays a significant role in meeting the education needs of the county and contributing to the economic well-being of it,” said Bolt. “I am pleased to be an active member of the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council, which has a similar emphasis by driving regional innovative STEM education in support of workforce demands.”

Speakman names interim president

Speakman, New Castle, a  maker of high-performance showerheads and plumbing fittings, announced that Robert Knoll has been elected as Interim President and CEO following the retirement of Rob Cook, who served as Speakman President and CEO for five years.

Cook, the first non-family member to lead Speakman after his appointment in 2010, commanded the company into a new era of achievement; most notably the launch of a consumer-focused e-commerce site as well as expansion in the company’s hospitality and industrial businesses, which are the backbone of Speakman’s heritage as a performance-focused plumbing fittings provider.

The news follows strategic appointments in the senior management ranks at Speakman, which has undergone unprecedented growth in the past several years, a company release stated.

Knoll, who has served as Chief Operating Officer for the past four years, brings both deep experience with Speakman’s people and operations, and sound perspective that will support continued expansion for the company.

Working closely with the Speakman Board and leadership team, Knoll will be responsible for day-to-day corporate management, strategic growth planning, and brand stewardship as the company continues to deliver on its promise to offer high-performance products through it’s commercial, emergency, hospitality, and home businesses.

New managers at Tunnell Cancer Center

Beebe Healthcare announced two new managers at Tunnell Cancer Center in Rehoboth Beach.

Carol Hunt, has been promoted to Manager, Oncology Business and Support Services. Diane Mulkhey has joined Tunnell as the new Operations Manager.

Hunt has been instrumental in organizing the administrative functions at Beebe Healthcare’s Tunnell Cancer Center for the past six years. In her new role, she will manage many of the financial responsibilities for Tunnell Cancer Center, including contract management, grant budgets, and TCC designated foundation funds.

Hunt has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and more than 10 years of experience managing her own business, in addition to her years spent working at Tunnell Cancer Center at the Beebe Healthcare Rehoboth Beach Campus on Route 24.

Diane Mulkhey comes with radiation and medical oncology experience at Central Maine Medical Center. She was recently employed with Delaware Bay Surgical. Mulkhey will oversee operations at Tunnell Cancer Center, including fiscal management, performance improvement, and compliance with policies and procedures. In addition, Mulkhey will manage all aspects of personnel and work with all departments as part of the management team. She will oversee 24 team members at Tunnell.

Havas named Bryn Mawr VP

Bryn Mawr Bank Corporation announced that it has appointed John Z. Havas, Vice President and Senior Relationship Manager.  He will be located at Bryn Mawr Trust’s office at One East Chocolate Avenue, Hershey, PA. Bryn Mawr has banking and trust offices in northern Delaware.

Havas has over ten years’ experience in banking serving the Central Pennsylvania market, most recently with the former Integrity Bank, in Camp Hill, PA, where he served as Vice President. Prior to that he was with the former Commerce Bank now TD Bank, in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania market.

Havas is a graduate of Virginia Tech earning a Bachelor of Science degree and Duquesne University where he earned a Master of Science degree. Additionally, he is a 2014 graduate of the Graduate school of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Leadership changes at Christiana Care

Christiana Care Health System has announced the following leadership changes to achieve strategic goals of optimal health, an exceptional experience and organizational vitality in support of patients and the community.

Beginning October 1,  the following Christiana Care leaders will begin these new and expanded roles:

Thomas L. Corrigan, as executive vice president and Chief Financial Officer. The expanded role includes responsibility for health services operations.

Ken Silverstein, M.D., MBA, as Chief Clinical Officer. This new role expands on the leadership responsibilities of chief medical officer and includes strategic guidance and operational management of the service lines.

Sharon Anderson,  as Chief Population Health Officer and senior vice president, Quality & Patient Safety.

Sharon Kurfuerst, as senior vice president, Health Services Operations. In this new role, she is responsible for facilities and operations, and continues strategic leadership of Rehabilitation Services and Behavioral Health administration.

Mike Eppehimer,  as senior vice president, Service Line Operations.

The new role encompasses administrative leadership of Christiana Care’s clinical service lines.

Pat Grusenmeyer,  as senior vice president, Strategic Business Development. In this new role, he will provide strategic and operational leadership of work supporting new and existing partnerships. He remains president of Christiana Care Health Initiatives Inc.

Doug Azar as vice president, network development and executive director, Christiana Care Quality Partners.

Valenzuela named  finalist 

First State Manufacturing announces that Chairman of The Board and founder, Eli Valenzuela was named as a finalist for the Hispanic Vetrepreneur of the Year by the National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA).

NaVOBA was established as a nationwide organization dedicated to creating opportunities for all of America’s veteran-owned businesses. Vetrepreneur magazine is the only national publication in the country dedicated exclusively to covering the veteran-owned business movement which is 3 million members strong.

Valenzuela is featured in the September issue of Vetrepreneur Magazine was  at the awards ceremony held as part of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) National Conference.

Ellison named chair in memory care

James M. Ellison, M.D., MPH, has been named The Swank Foundation Endowed Chair in Memory Care and Geriatrics at Christiana Care Health System. The chair is made possible by a $2.5 million gift from the Swank Foundation which is dedicated to transforming care for people with memory issues.

Ellison will lead Christiana Care’s Swank Memory Care Center, a resource in Delaware and the region for patients with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory disorders.

The center was founded in 2011 with a $1.25 million grant from the Howard W. Swank, Alma K. Swank and Richard Kemper Swank Foundation.

At the Swank Memory Care Center, a team that includes geriatricians, nurses, social workers and others works with patients and families to provide support, education and guidance from diagnosis through treatment.

He joins Christiana Care from McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA. most recently as chief psychiatrist and director of the Memory Disorders Clinic, director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Program.

Hardy named Opera Delaware  managing director

OperaDelaware has appointed Jason Hardy to the newly created position of Managing Director.

Hardy joined OperaDelaware in 2013 as Director of Development and Community Engagement.

Under his leadership, the company was awarded more than $600,000 in transformational private foundation support and saw record-breaking levels of individual donations.

In his new role, Hardy will continue to steer In this expanded role, Hardy will continue to oversee the company’s fund raising efforts while taking on new responsibilities in the day-to-day operations of OperaDelaware including administrative and artistic functions.

Hardy also was a   principal artist on the opera stage.  Over his 18-year career as a singer, Hardy performed at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and The Kennedy Center.

He has sung with the New York City Opera, Opéra de Montréal, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the National Symphony Orchestra.

Hardy holds a bachelor’s degree from Emory University in Atlanta.  He also earned a Master of Music and Artist Diploma from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins University.

Baccellieri joins Santora CPA Group

Santora CPA Group announced that Brian J. Baccellieri, JD has joined the firm as a Supervisor in the Tax Department.

He is a 2000 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.

He received his Juris Doctor from Widener University School of Law in 2004.

He is a member of the American Institute and Delaware Society of CPAs.

He will be providing a variety of tax services to the firm’s clients.
