Radio Newark took a step forward in operating low-power FM community radio station in the area with the installation of an antenna mounted on a utility pole
Money for the antenna was raised through a fund-raising drive supported by individuals and local businesses that included the Business Bulletin and DelawareBusinessDaily.com.
The non-profit station will operate as WIZU on the 99.9 frequency. The station is the brainchild of Steve Worden, who already operates Radio Newark, a non-profit Internet radio station that features science programming from around the world.
The FM station will be a community effort, with work under way on developing a team of citizen correspondents and volunteers. For more information, click here.
Hello Doug. Great story! Radio Newark will be community radio with the STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) focus. This is a good fit for neighbors, listeners who like science and not the boring kind, sponsors, and so many more people who have broad interests as we all seek to avoid what one typically finds on the radio these days. Great live link to the station website. The “listen now” button gives a free sample of Steve Worden’s vision. Very cool!
