The home of the Delaware State Fair ended up being ranked by an Internet site as the worst place in Delaware.
Click on the highlighted text from Road Snacks for the complete ranking of 56 communities, ranking worst to best. Pike Creek ranked as the best place.
Road Snacks is not a dining guide. Instead, the site crunches numbers related to housing prices (the higher the better), population density, incomes, crime and other information into “bites” of opinion, the site states.
The population density ranking seems to be based on the premise that low density equates to boredom, a hard argument to make with Harrington, a small town with a fairgrounds, harness track, skating rink and casino. Rounding out the two through five list of worst spots were Delmar, Rodney Village, Laurel and Woodside East. Wilmington ranked as the sixth worst place.
The number six ranking may actually comes a relief to some in Wilmington, which has been dealing with negative publicity related to its homicide rate that ranks high among small cities.
Ranking as the best place was Pike Creek, followed by Hockessin and Townsend.
The hilly Pike Creek area earned its stripes thanks to higher home prices and incomes, not its cultural attractions and night life.
The site cautions that “this article is an opinion based on facts and is meant as infotainment. Don’t freak out.”
