Businesses honored by Central Delaware Chamber at annual event in late June

More than 300 Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce members and their guests attended the  Annual Awards for Excellence dinner, hosted at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino late last month.

The Chamber’s Outstanding Partnership Award was presented to BIG Investment Services for their active role in the organization through participation on several key committees and in events.

Ron Barisano received the Chair’s Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award for his role as the Chamber’s Marketing Committee Chair for the past three years as well as his involvement on the Auction and Christmas Party Committees.

Ron was also instrumental in the completion of the LCD Class of 2015’s community service project for People’s Place.

The Chair’s Outstanding Board Member of the Year for 2015 is Bob Souza of Harrington Raceway

Bob has continually donated his time and resources in support of CDCC events and programs, the chamber noted.

The Leadership Central Delaware (LCD) Class of 2015 graduated and The LCD Class of 2014 took the  trophy for Best in Class 2015.

Mary Fennemore with Fifer Orchards won for Small Business of the Year and Michael McMasters with Chesapeake Utilities won for Corporation of the Year. The CDCC members nominated and voted for both of these awards.

“We, at the CDCC, are always so thrilled to see who the members select as their nominees for both the Small Business and Corporation of the Year.  It speaks to the manner in which these businesses operate”, stated Judy Diogo, president, CDCC.  “Then to see whom they select to receive the Award is truly huge.  We have 1,000 members and to have your peers name you as the best is phenomenal.   Our nominees and our Award winners deserve to be very proud.”

Nominees were:  Small Business of the Year: Advantech Incorporated; Fifer Orchards, Inc.; and Maple Dale Country Club. Corporation of the Year: Chesapeake Utilities Corporation; Harrington Raceway & Casino; and Nurse Next Door.

Tammy Ordway, retiring Chairman of the CDCC, provided The State of the Chamber Address.

She outlined the programs that the Chamber provides to their members and what can be expected for fiscal year 2015-2016.

Tammy Ordway passed the gavel to Janie Libby, new CDCC Chair for 2015-2017. Libby ended the Awards for Excellence Dinner by congratulating all of the winners and expressing her excitement for her term as Chairman.
