Coastal Sussex County restaurants are banding to together to aid children in  earthquake-stricken Nepal.

Fifteen restaurants on May 15 will each donate a portion of sales on that day to Save the Children, which is providing relief to the region. The Carl M. Freeman Foundation and the Matthew James Haley Trust will also donate funds.

Scott Kammerer, CEO of SoDel Concepts, which has eight participating restaurants, is spearheading the community effort. “This is a collaboration of leading southern Delaware businesses coming together quickly to help create a sustainable recovery,” he said. “Many of our employees have visited Nepal repeatedly – some in the past month – and this cause is dear to our hearts.”

Participating SoDel Concepts restaurants include Fish On in Lewes, Lupo Italian Kitchen and Papa Grande’s Coastal Taqueria in Rehoboth Beach, Matt’s Fish Camp and Bluecoast Seafood Grill in Bethany Beach, NorthEast Seafood Kitchen in Ocean View, and Catch 54 and Papa Grande’s Coastal Taqueria in Fenwick Island.

Other participating restaurants include DiFebo’s restaurants in Bethany Beach and Rehoboth Beach, and Fins Fish House & Raw Bar, Fins Ale House & Raw Bar, Claws Crab House, Nage and Hobos, – all in Rehoboth Beach.

“These local businesses might be in friendly competition with each other, but they responded quickly to support citizens of the world in a time of need,” Kammerer said. “We hope that people will dine in any of these restaurants on May 15 with the knowledge that a portion of everything they order will help the victims of this tragic event.”

SoDel founder Matt Haley spent a great deal of time in Nepal. He died last summer in a motorcycle crash on a planned trip to India and Nepal that included ongoing charitable work.
