Bayhealth has selected Whiting-Turner Contracting Company for construction management of the $250 million health campus project in Milford. The contractor, based in Baltimore, has an office in Newark.
As the construction manager, Whiting-Turner will oversee construction and collaborate with the project team on this 165-acre project, which is scheduled to open in 2018. They will ensure the work complies with contract provisions, state and local regulations, and project specifications. Whiting-Turner joins CannonDesign, Baltimore, architect.
Recently, Whiting-Turner managed the construction of the new 3rd floor Progressive Care Unit at Kent General. Whiting-Turner also provided construction oversight of Kent General’s integrated cancer center, pavilion, parking garage, and emergency department, which opened in 2011.
Bayhealth President and Chief Executive Officer Terry Murphy said he is pleased with the progress that has been made since the health campus project was announced in late November 2014.

Whiting-Turner will oversee dozens of subcontractor firms and more than 1,300 construction workers over the two-year construction schedule. For this project, they will utilize many of Delaware’s construction resources.

The health campus will include an inpatient hospital and emergency department. It will also include outpatient services such as primary care and specialist physicians as well as diagnostic services. Many services that patients and their families need will be offered at one location.
Murphy said he is impressed by the ongoing community interest and engagement in the new health campus and Clarke Avenue facility. Feedback and traffic at the project website ImagineDE.com continues to be strong, he said.
