DuPont announced that Chair and Chief Executive Officer Ellen Kullman has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE).

Kullman was elected “for leadership in the business growth and transformation of a global science and engineering company.”

Election to the National Academy of Engineering stands among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to “engineering research, practice, or education,” and to the “pioneering of new and developing fields of technology.”

“Engineering plays an essential role in DuPont’s effort to translate advanced science into meaningful innovations that solve some of the world’s greatest challenges. I also have drawn constantly on my own engineering background as a leader,” said Kullman.  “For these reasons and others, I am deeply honored to be elected by the Academy.”

Only one other current DuPont employee is a member of the Academy: DuPont Fellow and Lavoisier medalist Charles J.
