Dr Sheryl Kline, UD HRIM Chair; Bill Sullivan, Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware and GM of the Year; Michael Waite, MC and Blood Bank of Delmarva

Bill Sullivan, general manager of the Courtyard Newark at the University of Delaware, was named the Hotelier of the Year by the Delaware Hotel and Lodging Association.

The awards   banquet was held last week at Deerfield, Newark.

Sullivan has headed the hotel throughout its 10-year history. The Courtyard provides real-world experience for students in the Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management program (HIRM) at the University of Delaware.

Sullivan is an adjunct professor at Widener University and the University of Delaware. He also serves as chair of the Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Also honored were:

– Allied Member of the Year: Robert (Sudzy) Harrison, vice president of Unlimited Restoration Services.

– Volunteer of the Year: Gerry Hartman, director of sales for Delaware Express, Newark.

– Associate Member of the Year: Donna Laws, business administrator for the University of Delaware Hotel Restaurant and institutional Management program.

– Government Official of the Year: Alan Levin, director of the Delaware Economic Development Office.

– Outstanding Houseperson of the Year: Eutte John, Sheraton Wilmington South.

– Outstanding Employee of the Year: Kristina Multani, Hilton Christiana.

– Outstanding Manager of the Year: Patricia Grimsley, Holiday Inn Express and Suites,  Newark.

– Chairman’s Awards: Vic Schimp and Vince DiFonzo.

– Special honor: Perry Patel, outgoing chairman of Hotel and Lodging Association.

Scholarships:

– DHLA Award for $3,000: Guido D. Iammatteo, University of Delaware HRIM

– DHLA Award for $3,000: Josh Vogel University of Delaware HRIM

– Great Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau (GWCVB) Award for $2,500: Imad Jamal. Delaware Technical  Community College

– GWCVB Award for $2,500: Cheron Farley – Delaware State University

– Kramedas scholarship for $5,000: Jenna Pekofsky University of Delaware HRIM.
