WilmFilm 2015, the third annual Wilmington film festival, will return to Penn Cinema Riverfront on April 23-26 with a program of about two dozen “movies that matter,” a collection of comedies, dramas and documentaries guaranteed to amuse, captivate and educate, says festival promoter Barry Schlecker.

Midnight screenings, films produced by Delawareans, films that have other Delaware connections, and movies sponsored by area nonprofit organizations add to the weekend’s allure and diversity.

“We’re making it easy for Delawareans – and everyone elsee – to see the films they want to see, all in one place, in a luxurious theater, over a single weekend,” Schlecker says.

The New Castle County Ice Cream Festival at Rockwood, featured last year in the Food Network’s “Eating America” series, returns to Rockwood Park north of Wilmington on June 27-28 in partnership with the New Castle County government. The popular “Best Sundae on Sunday” competition will match the 2014 winner, the UDairy Creamery, against some of Delaware’s leading dairies and ice cream shops in a battle to create the tastiest frozen treat.

Music on two stages, dozens of children’s activities and an eclectic mix of food vendors make the Ice Cream Festival Delaware’s largest family picnic, with an estimated attendance of 40,000 last year.

Sept. 12-13, the weekend after Labor Day, brings the Brandywine Festival of the Arts to Wilmington’s Brandywine Park. The juried show, with up to 250 artisans from more than a dozen states, has been a Delaware tradition for more than 50 years and has long been regarded as one of the best arts festivals in the Mid-Atlantic region. The festival, which usually attracts about 10,000 visitors a day, also features performances of original music by local singers and instrumentalists, children’s activities and a food court.
