A man was killed Friday afternoon after being struck by a a crawler tractor at the Cherry Island Landfill near Wilmington. Delaware State Police reported the accident occurred at 12:37 p.m. as Aaron F. Harley, 52, of Wilmington, was operating a Caterpillar D6R LGP Crawler Tractor at landfill.
As Harley was pushing trash into a large pile and was backing up, he struck co-worker, Jose Luis Garcia-Hernandez, 42, of Newark, who was standing behind the tractor.
Garcia-Hernandez was declared dead at the scene.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (O.S.H.A.) has been notified and will also be conducting an investigation.
