xxlargeWilmington Mayor Dennis P. Williams joined  Robert Buccini, co-founder of the Buccini/Pollin Group; and Mona Parikh, Director of Start it up Delaware, signed an  Executive Order establishing the Mayor’s Young Professionals Task Force.

In an effort to attract more young professionals to live and work in the city, the Mayor’s Young Professionals Task Force will be comprised of a diverse group of young adults representing various professional industries present within the City of Wilmington including finance, legal, non-profit, education, and government.

The goal of the task force is to provide progressive, creative, out-of-the-box ideas relating to how the city encourages more young professionals to experience the city’s modern housing options, stable job market and ample entertainment venues, according to a release.

Buccini, a residential developer in downtown and the riverfront, is part of a group that has  offered  a goal of  attracting 5,000 people to the city, with young people moving into downtown and neighborhoods poised for a turnaround.  Demand has been strong for apartments in the riverfront area, which now has restaurants, a cinema and a nearby supermarket. The Lower Market Street area (LOMA) has also attracted start-up companies and other activity.

“The Young Professionals Task Force looks to directly engage dynamic, young adults in the city’s mission to increase the number of young professionals living and working Wilmington,” Mayor Williams. “With their insights, we can be more informed regarding how we target and attract young professionals to the city.”

Beginning in October, the Young Professionals Task Force will meet monthly to discuss and develop innovative and ambitious concepts to draw new young professionals to the City, while sustaining the  ongoing presence of  young adults in the Trolley Square, Riverfront and Downtown neighborhoods. The ideas and suggestions shared by the task force will be compiled as a report to be presented to the mayor’s office.

“The energy and unique perspective shared by the members serving on the Young Professionals Task Force will help move Wilmington forward, as a magnet City where young professionals look to  live and work,” said Williams.
