Janet Killian, president and founder of Gemini Janitorial Services, will be presented with the Entrepreneurial Woman of the Year award by the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce at the 24th Annual Entrepreneurial & Business Women’s EXPO on November 13th.
For the past 24 years, this award has been given to an outstanding business woman “to honor and celebrate a woman who represents entrepreneurial success and spirit, and who is an inspirational model for other entrepreneurial women,” according to the Chamber.
The selected business must be one hundred percent woman owned, have operating longevity, substantial organizational structure, and documented success.
Janet has grown her business to more than 90 employees.
“It has taken hard work and perseverance,” said Janet, “but if you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything.”
Janet started her successful home cleaning business 30 years ago. Sidelined with an injury, and working as an administrative assistant, Janet realized that while she personally could no longer do the cleaning, she could recruit and train people who could work for her.
Janet started Gemini Janitorial Services and focused on the commercial cleaning market, servicing business offices and completed construction projects. Building a reputation for quality, responsiveness and long-lasting relationships has helped Janet develop roots in the Delaware commercial cleaning market and amass a loyal and long-standing clientele.
“I think what makes us different is that we are a home based business. When a customer calls Gemini, they get Gemini,” said Killian.
