Maryland manufacturer looks at Delaware

hedwinThe Baltimore Sun is reporting that the new  owners of a manufacturing company are looking into moving to a new site in Delaware or Maryland. Click here for the story.

An executive with the the Hedwin divison of Japanese company Zacos international confirmed that the company is looking, but emphasized that no decision has been made. Hewin produces plastic containers.

Zacros America is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujimori Kogyo Co., Ltd., a Japanese corporation with a half-century relationship with Hedwin.

The company was purchased after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, following a  fire at its suburban Baltimore location. The Sun reported the company had 300 employees prior to the auction sale.

Kent and Sussex counties have seen some success in attracting manufacturers in the past couple of years.

Recently, a German company announced plans to build a flooring product plant in Dover, with Energizer, formerly Playtex, making plans to relocate operations to Dover from Canada.
